| Just got back from Glasgow. Very early as there was no encore. I wont be going again. Not a patch on the 2006 gigs! |

| The atmosphere was great TB, but as Graham says, very disappointing to be going home so early, especially since everyone was baying for more. A great night, spoiled by brevity. |

Oh dear - that's disappointing! Any indication as to why there was no encore? Time constraints due to it being a Sunday? The guys having a bad gig?
How was the rest of the set?

| The set, sound, crowd response, the band, everything was great, which makes it all the more mystifying that the guys disappeared so soon. It's definitely left a bit of a sour taste, I'm sorry to say. |

The encore on previous nights had been "This Is England"... _________________ Did the aliens forget to remove your anal probe? |

That makes it worse! JM made a comment like "You're thinking ahead!" when a guy shouted "This is Glasgow!" earlier on, and I was really looking forward to hearing it... |

| to be fair to the guys, the crowd didn't really make enough noise at the end to make it clear they wanted an encore. I agree that it was disappointing but I wasn't surprised the band stayed off. |

| To clarify what happened: the venue has a 10 o' clock curfew due to a club night being on at 11. It Bites were unaware of this and as a result had to change their usual set list at the last minute. JM commented that they did want to play This Is England but if there's no time then there's no time. |

| Right, it was a great gig. Band, crew and crowd loved it. No england as at the last minute we got told no more time. Everyone in IB was gutted. And they had gone to the trouble of reworking it as a one off This Is Scotland! |

This was a bit of a mixed bag of a night. IB sounded as tight as they ever have, good song selection, good dynamics within the setlist, and polished performances from all (except for a train wreck at the end of one song), especially from Bob, who I could hardly see but could hear very well. Wish he'd play on a riser though. I never get to see him. Loved hearing some EMISL tracks, especially Let Us All Go, which was superb. Yellow Christian and OMATA were simply stunning. And a sensible and brave decision not to play CATH. I didn't miss it, as Kiss Like Judas was awesome. First time seeing Lee on bass. He's a superb player and out of all of them gave the impression that he was having the most fun. John Beck hasn't changed in 20 years - still posing but still good stuff - although he did actually smile and laugh once or twice tonight at a bit of audience banter. Also my first time seeing John Mitchell. I think he's very accomplished and I love what he's brought to IB. And yes John, your voice was like a chainsaw, but you coped well. I have to say that I miss the sheer charisma of Frank. When he's not there you realise just what a big presence he is on stage, and what a pioneer he was during his IB days. However, I think TTS material stands up very well live and JM is responsible for a large part of that, so kudos JM.
I agree with another poster here that the crowd may well not have warranted an encore as they were pretty muted, especially for Glasgow. However, I do feel a bit cheated at having spent £20 quid for a 90 minute show, especially since they've not been here in ages, and especially since the encore would have been This is England. Maybe it's because Lee was stumped by an audience question (thx crowd bozos for shouting out the answer...jeez). Or maybe they were feeling bloated after their meal across the road in Kama Sutra. A friend at the gig dined there before the gig and said the band were on their way out about an hour before the show. Never play a gig on a full stomach, especially an Indian, delicious as it may be! Maybe the reason John Beck leaves the stage every night in the middle of a show is to throw up his dinner or dip into his doggy bag for a bit of pakora!
No encore, but I got a lollipop though:-)

Just got back from Glasgow...
OH MY GOD, THE GENIUS OF IT ALL!
Everything I'd hoped it'd be. Poor JM put in a fantastic shift in spite of the fact he was clearly suffering with an utterly fecked throat.
The only wierd thing about the gig was no encore???!!
We patiently waited for the lads to re-appear for 'This is England' but the lights went on and the PA started playing 'She sells Sanctuary' to the ring of quite a few boo's.
I heard from some folks that ABC2 has a 10pm curfew on gigs due to it turning into a night club later? The boys finished at around 9:50pm so that would make sense.
Still, I've never seen a show where the band had no encore.
Fortunately though I witnessed a fantastically blistering set. Who would have thought I'd get another chance to see IB! Quality, pure quality.
I HAVE TO DISAGREE AND SAY THAT THE CROWD WERE PLENTY ENTHUSIASTIC ENOUGH FOR AN ENCORE. I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO 'THIS IS SCOTLAND!'
PS Sorry I missed you RYO. I could see you down the front but got caught up chatting to a whole bunch of friends at the end and then you were gone. Later dude! Hope you had a blast _________________ This is SCOTLAND! |

Yes, I would echo the above. What we got was great - just a real shame the venue called time early, preventing a desired and deserved encore. If the ABC is going to have such a curfew, that should have been explained to all at the outset and an earlier kick-off time allowed for.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait for This Is Scotland! Next time... |

The band were on top form last night. JM’s voice was obviously knackered but it didn’t take anything away. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s the first time I’ve heard Let It All Go live… awesome.
The curfew thing sounds believable for the lack of encore, however it would have been good for someone to make an announcement. The ave audience age of an IB gig must be late 30’s early 40’s. So we’re hardly likely to wreck the place a la guns n roses style. Loads of these places have curfews now and I find it hard to believe that nobody knew or checked details with the venue.
That all aside and no fault of IB, I didn’t like the venue. The stage was a cut out hole in the wall only 6 inches above the audience so it was very difficult to see the guitars, keyboards, etc. 90 mins of facial expressions.. It was very obvious that it was a cinema foyer and with so many small coffee tables about you needed your shin guards on. It was like being at a gig in an IKEA showroom.
Incidently ABC1 upstairs is an excellent venue. _________________ www.myspace.com/doktorunk |
